What are content blocks?

Content blocks are individual components that display content, such as images or text, on your Website. It can be helpful to think of each content block as an individual building block. Together, they make up the structure of your Website's page.

You can add content to a page using a content block. There are many types of blocks available, making it easy to personalize the presentation of your content:

  • Text: Add standalone text, such as headings and paragraphs

  • Image: Display photos as standalone images, grids, slideshows, or alongside text

  • Content: Showcase your Website content with stylized options, such as client testimonials, pricing, etc.

  • Links: Direct visitors to external links or other parts of your Website with text or image-based links

  • Blog: Display and link to published Pixieset Blog posts

  • Video: Embed an existing YouTube or Vimeo video

  • Contact: Add a contact form to collect inquiries, or embed a Google Map with a location pin

  • Social: Show social icons that link to your social accounts, or display your Instagram feed

  • Other: Custom code blocks, page formatting elements, and buttons

Editing content blocks

To edit a content block, click directly on the block to load its Block Settings in the left-hand Builder Panel. You will be able to add and edit applicable content specific to the block through this panel.

For example, if you click directly on a slideshow block, you will see its specific customization options (e.g. adding photos to the slideshow) appear in the Builder Panel.

In the cases of certain content blocks, such as the text block, you will be able to add content to the block directly from the Content Editor instead of the Builder Panel.

Adding photos

You can add your own photos to any content block that can display images, such as an image block or slideshow block. By default, these blocks will contain placeholder images, which you can replace by uploading your own photo to the block.

To replace a content block's placeholder images with your own photos:

  1. Click directly on the block to load its Block Settings page in the left-hand Builder Panel.

  2. On the Builder Panel, you will see an option to manage and upload photos directly to the block.

  3. To upload photos directly, click "Browse computer" or drag a photo directly to the photo upload area to upload your photo to the block. Once the upload process is complete, you will see your photo automatically replace the placeholder image.

You can also upload photos straight from your existing Client Galleries. Simply click Client Gallery on the uploader to search your collections and select any photo you wish to use. Click Upload to use that photo for the content block.

You can watch our video walkthrough guide to uploading here.

Adding videos

You can easily embed an existing YouTube or Vimeo video to your Website with a video block. Check our guide here.

Adding new content

If you want to add more content to a page, you can do so by adding a new content block. When you add a new block, the existing blocks on the page will automatically adjust to make room for it.

To add a new content block:

  1. Hover over the area that you'd like to add a new block to, and click the green "+" icon that appears.

  2. On the "Add Block" page that appears, select the block design that you'd like to add to the page. To locate a certain block type (e.g. video), simply select the appropriate category from the list on the left.

  3. Once you have added the new content block to your page, you will be able to click directly on it to begin editing it.

Moving content blocks

  1. Hover your cursor directly over the content block to bring up its block toolbar in the top right.

  2. Click and hold the Arrow icon, and drag the block up or down to your preferred area on the page.

Duplicating content blocks

You can duplicate a content block to any existing page with the Copy Block feature. Duplicating a block is a great way to display the same content across different areas of your Website.

For example, if you have a "Contact Me" button block that you want to display at the bottom of each of your Website's pages, you can simply set up this button block once, and then duplicate it to every other page.

To duplicate a content block:

  1. Hover your cursor directly over the content block to bring up its block toolbar in the top right.

  2. Click the Copy icon.

  3. From the "Copy Block To" list that appears, select an existing page that you'd like to copy the block over to.

Switching a content block's layout

With the Quick Layout feature, you can easily switch between the different layout options for an existing content block. This is a great way to test out a new look for a specific content block.

To switch the layout of a content block:

  1. Hover your cursor directly over the content block to bring up its block toolbar in the top right.

  2. Click the Layout button to shuffle between the available designs for the specific content block.

Deleting a content block

To delete an entire content block from a page:

  1. Hover your cursor directly over the content block to bring up its block toolbar in the top right.

  2. Click the trash can icon, and confirm your decision.
