Image Formats

JPEGs

JPEGs can be uploaded to Pixieset Client Galleries and Mobile Gallery Apps. You can deliver JPEG downloads through your collections or sell them in your Store. Only JPEG files are supported for providing prints and physical products in your Store.

GIFs

If you'd like to display animations in your Client Gallery, a GIF is the perfect solution. You can upload GIFs to your Client Galleries and easily offer GIF downloads to your clients or sell them in your Store. GIFs can also be uploaded to Pixieset Mobile Gallery App and Website. GIFs cannot be used for prints or physical products in the Store.

You can read more about GIFs and PNG uploads here.

PNGs

If you want to upload files that preserve transparency, you can do so using PNGs. You can upload PNGs to your Client Galleries and offer PNG downloads to your clients or sell them in your Store. PNGs can be uploaded to Pixieset Mobile Gallery App and Website as well. PNGs cannot be used for prints or physical products in the Store

You can read more about GIFs and PNG uploads here.

Video formats and recommended settings

If sharing videos is an important part of your workflow you can also upload videos to Pixieset Client Gallery. Pixieset supports the following video formats:

  • MP4

  • MOV

  • AVI

  • M4V

To optimize the video upload process, as well as your client’s download experience, we recommend the following video encoding settings:

  • 1080p/2K or smaller

  • MP4 file format

  • H.264 video CODEC

  • 8-bit 4:2:0 or below

Video downloads through Pixieset will be downloaded in a high quality MP4 format up to 1920 x 1080px in size, depending on the original video you have uploaded.

File sizes

Client Gallery and Mobile Gallery App

Images

You can upload JPG and PNG files that are up to 100 MB in size, and GIFs up to 85 MB, to both Client Gallery and Mobile Gallery Apps. The number of images you are able to upload will depend on the file sizes, and your current Pixieset Subscription since all of our plans are storage-based.

Videos

There aren’t any limits to the video size you can upload but we’d recommend uploading videos that are 1080p/2K or smaller for best results. You can upload as many videos to your collections as you like within the limits of your Client Gallery Plan.

Pixieset Website

Pixieset Website supports image uploads and will automatically optimize these for display purposes and fast loading. You do not need to resize files before you upload to Website but if you want to help with the optimizing process, we'd recommend uploading files that are close to 2500px on the long edge as this is the largest size we will display. While Pixieset Website support file uploads up 50 MB in size, to help optimize performance further we’d recommend uploads lower than 5 MB in size.

File names

Your filenames should not contain any special characters. We recommend only using alpha-numeric characters (A-Z, 0-9) with a dash "-" or underscore "_" to ensure that there won't be any issues in delivering the files to clients, or using the Sort feature in Pixieset.

If your filenames contain special characters, your clients may not be able to download the files properly, as built-in unzip programs cannot process most special characters. Pay special attention to the vertical bar (|), as this tricky character is easy to miss when you're reviewing the filenames for special characters.
